Littlemill Distillery
Although the title is somewhat disputed, Littlemill claims to be the oldest distillery in Scotland, being established in 1772. However, it wasn’t until 1857 that the distillery began to see some success. Both distillery and independent bottlings were released over the ensuing decades, despite multiple ownership changes and periods of closure. The distillery was sold to Loch Lomond Distillery in 1994. It was dismantled in 1997, and the remnants of the distillery were destroyed in a fire in 2004. The remaining Littlemill stocks are being carefully curated for release so as to savour the remaining drops of this rare spirit.
Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & Macphail are one of the oldest whisky bottlers to exist in the world. Bottling over 350 expressions from over 70 distilleries, as well as bottling whisky for numerous large distilleries in Scotland for decades. Bottling whisky for 115 years and now proud owners of the Benromach distillery since 1993. They did nearly purchase Strathisla Distillery from Seagram’s in the 1950’s, but Seagram’s wanted £71,000, whereas Gordon & Macphail only offered £70,000. Imagine.
Connoisseurs Choice
Arguably Gordon & Macphail’s most famous series, the Connoisseurs Choice range showcases a variety of single malts from every region in Scotland. The range was launched in the mid-1960s and remains a by-word for high quality single malts from distilleries such as Macallan, Ardbeg, and Port Ellen.
