Glenury Royal Distillery
Glenury Royal was another distillery to fall victim to the distillery closures of the 1980’s. In the remote eastern highlands many cherished distilleries were lost. Glenury was founded by Captain Robert Barclay, the first man to walk 1000 miles in 1000 hours, the distillery underwent numerous fires and accidents all the way up until 1968 when its floor maltings were ceased. The distillery continued making whisky for two more decades until closure in 1983. The most famous of Glenury Royal bottlings is part of the Rare Malts Collection, a very prized part of that collection.
Cadenhead
Cadenhead was first established by George Duncan in 1842, at 47 Netherkirkgate in Aberdeen, making it the oldest of Scotland’s independent bottlers. In 1972 J & A. Mitchell took over the business and moved operations from Netherkirkgate to Campbeltown. Nowadays, in addition to the high-end, non-coloured and non-chill-filtered single malts, Cadenhead has tasting rooms and shops in Edinburgh and London.
