Convalmore Distillery
Convalmore distillery was built in the early-mid 1890s and sold to W.P. Lowrie in 1904, and then to James Buchanan after he acquired Lowrie’s business. Buchanan, at the time, was best known for the Black & White blend, which had an international market.
During a 1925 merger, Buchanan’s joined DCL and Convalmore joined the Scottish Malt Distillers. In the 1960s the distillery underwent expansion to cope with increasing demand for blends.
Yet another victim of the 1980s Whisky Loch, Convalmore was mothballed in 1985 and is now owned by William Grant & Sons. The distillery is no longer working, but the buildings are standing firm for now.
First Cask
First Cask is a series of specially selected single malt whiskies that were bottled as single cask, cask strength bottlings by Direct Wines.
First Cask is a generally undervalued series, with some fine examples of well-aged whiskies from renowned distilleries going for relatively low prices compared to similar ages and vintages from other independent bottlers or official releases.
