Ardbeg Guaranteed 10 Years Old 70 proof 1970s
This distillery bottling of Ardbeg 10 year old was bottled in the 1970s, likely later on in the decade as demonstrated by the crossover between the imperial and metric units used on the bottle, which is listed with 26 2/3 Fl ozs and 75.7cl with an ABV of 70 proof.
Despite being closed for much of the 1980s, and experiencing another brief closure in 1996 Ardbeg whisky has gone on to become exceedingly popular with both drinkers and collectors. Bottles of early Ardbeg 10 year old are rare at auction and retail and we could find no others with the dual metric and imperial volume.
For a lot of whisky drinkers, Ardbeg is the number one distillery when it comes to huge, smoky, classic west coast single malts. Despite huge demand and a growing reputation as a collectors malt, Ardbeg is still a relatively small distillery producing 2,100,000 litres per year. It is amazing to think that just over a decade ago the distillery only had three core range bottles and a handful of limited-edition releases. Ardbeg has had a tumultuous history. From multiple changes of ownership to becoming one of the most in-demand distilleries in the world, Ardbeg had been through it all.
