Macallan 1962 80 proof Gordon and Macphail
This official bottling of Macallan 1962 was bottled at 80 proof, probably sometime in the 1970s.
At this point distilleries were not able to do their own bottling, and so this is an official bottle of Macallan with the official branding, but was bottled by legendary independent bottlers Gordon and Macphail. There is also a Campbell, Hope and King version of this 1962 vintage (who bottled for Macallan prior to Gordon and Macphail), but this version by Gordon and Macphail is much rarer both at retail and auction.
At the time of this bottling Macallan had introduced their iconic gold branding, but they were also still using the moniker Macallan-Glenlivet on their labels. This was quite common at the time and a number of distilleries added -Glenlivet to their name because Glenlivet was one of the most popular distilleries of the period and the marketing laws at the time meant it was acceptable practice.
This bottle is in excellent condition both in terms of the label and a fantastic neck level.
